COVID-19 and Club Programming

With our greatest priority still being the health and safety of members, their families, and our staff, we are having in-person programming at our Clubs as we constantly monitor the way COVID-19 is affecting our community. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond will follow all public health directives and CDC guidance.

We continue to perform temperature checks, self-screening questions, and are limiting visitors and volunteers at this time.

Staff are routinely cleaning and sanitizing high touch areas throughout the day and as part of closing duties at the end of each day.

Members/groups will be limited in size and will remain with the same members and staff throughout the day.

Club staff and members are required to wear face masks at all times.

Hand washing is required regularly throughout the day and hand sanitizer is available in every room/space.

Thanks to Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation for funding our Healthy Reopening Program. With their support, we are able to provide tools not only to keep Club members and staff physically healthy (hand sanitizer, masks, disposable, single-use plates/utensils) but also to ensure each Club environment and approach is trauma-informed and can provide referrals for youth/families needing mental health services.

We continue to help our youth and their families by filling gaps and reducing fragilities they are experiencing as COVID-19 continues to be a threat. Through programs that are providing our families emergency assistance such as food, housing-related assistance and more as well as virtual sessions with our Club members, the important work of empowering our youth is more important than ever.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond continues to monitor updates and recommendations from health agencies related to the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Our Coronavirus Response Team will continue to meet regularly to assess and determine how best to deliver our programs and services.

BGCMR Volunteer Opportunities Update

Due to COVID-19 safety measures, we are unable to have in-person volunteering. There are other ways you can help until it is safe for you and our members to be in our Clubs:

 1. Add your name to the list of speakers to give virtual presentations and host sessions/workshops online with our teens on career/college readiness.

 2. Donate needed items such as disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizers and other cleaning supplies for our Clubs and families.

 3. Donate grocery store gift cards to help our families struggling with food insecurity and in need of other basic necessities.

 4. Donate laptop accessories (such as wireless mice and Chromebook sleeves) for virtual tutoring/events .

If you are interested in helping, please email us at volunteer@bgcmr.org.

Thank you for your interest!
